Judiciary Workers Suspend Two-Day Old Strike

The two-day strike embarked upon by members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has been suspended Wednesday morning.

The strike was called of after a series of meeting which lasted from 2PM on Tuesday to 1.30 am this morning between JUSUN, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu.

A memorandum was endorsed by stakeholders to constitute a white paper committee for the implementation of the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Scale (CONJUSS) within two months.

All the affiliates of JUSUN including the National President Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu and the secretary; a representative of the Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar; the director of Administration in the National Judicial Council (NJC); Chairman of Incomes and Wages Commission; the Minister and a permanent secretary in the ministry; and the NLC all endorsed the agreement.

It would be recalled that JUSUN’s strike which had paralyzed activities at the Supreme Court, Appeal Courts, all Federal High Courts across the Federation, the FCT High Court, National Industrial Court and Sharia Court of Appeal, was embarked on following the expiration of a 21 day ultimatum to the Federal Government for the implementation of the pay raise from N17, 000 to N35, 000 minimum wage which has been delayed after being captured in the 2012 budget.
