Kim Kardashian Destroying Kanye West’s Career and Image – MTV Drops Rapper’s Rank

Kanye West is a prolific name in the music industry. His fame, his antagonism, and his constant need to perfect himself have made him an infamous icon in the grand, excessive arena of the music industry. Kanye’s heavily publicized relationship with Kim Kardashian – he is now also the father of her unborn baby (we hope) – unfortunately simplified his image and diluted it with farcical reality television fame.  The importance of perfect artistry – an unachievable ideal – has always been part of Kanye’s brand, but after his entry into the Kardashian Empire, Kanye’s public aura became wholly absorbed by the faux-reality one-liners and rehearsed set pieces of this dysfunctional family.

The Kardashians’ success lies in how easily they’re able to adapt to new situations and PR obstacles. This “Madonna” effect has worked well for them in the past, but it is working even better with Kim K’s recent linkage to Kanye. Instead of eclipsing her partner – read Kris Humphries – she is able to absorb Kanye’s popularity and shape it to cover her interests. There is nothing wrong with this modus operandi, but it does prove that Kim is an extremely clever businesswoman.

MTV recently “snubbed” Kanye and placed him in 7th place – behind Drake (5th) and Big Sean (6th) – on the list of top rappers in the industry. This “lowering” of Kanye’s popularity serves to prove that the rapper with the big mouth is becoming less popular than he has ever been, and many point the finger at Kim K.

Shortly after the list was released, he hit out at MTV in a radio interview and explained his dismay: “Yeah, number seven bothers me. I feel like for them to put me at number seven, they had to bring up things they didn’t like. “I mean, Cruel Summer got “[I] Don’t Like” remix, “Mercy,” “Cold,” “New God Flow,” oh and “Clique”! You can’t name five records like that on no album. But they wanna dis me, and be like, ‘He did Cruel Summer, and he can’t say he ain’t part of it ’cause he did eight records. … Ain’t nobody bringing up that [Rihanna] “Diamonds” remix verse, like there was no verse in a year that was f—in’ with that verse!”
Kanye concluded his interview by saying, “They don’t like Givenchy Kanye. They don’t like Kanye in a kilt, they don’t like Kanye in a relationship.”

Once again, in true Hollywood celebrity fashion, the age old “ball and chain” we take for granted in our intimate relationships, is accentuated and magnified in the entertainment industry. If Kanye and Kim survive their upcoming marriage and parenthood, we have a strong suspicion that Kim will be the sole breadwinner.
